John was a Wheelwright by trade; a Freeman by 1678 at Lynn; a Selectman 1693 to 1695 at Dorchester; and a Constable 1678-1705. John was admitted to the Church at Dorchester 8 Nov. 1674. He served in King Phillip's War with Captain Henchman. He was in a fight with Indians at Weehason Pond, May 1676 and owned 10 lots in the New Grant of Canton or Sharon, MA.

Will of John Tolman made 24 December 1722;
I give all my estate that I have not disposed of, both in lands, bills, bonds, and movables, to be equally divided among my children and grandchild, herein after named, that is to say, Elizabeth and Joseph, Benjamin and Ann, Ebenezer and Ruth, and my grandchild Farr Tolman, son of my son William, deceased. And my will is, that my grandchild shall have his when he comes to the age of one and twenty years, and if he dies before that, to be equally divided amongst my children above named. My will is, that my grandchilds part shall lie in the hands of my executors until it is payable by my will. I have given and did allow to my two sons, John and Henry Tolman, their portions in the land I sold to them, that is to say to my son John, 50 pounds, to my son Henry, 25 pounds. My son, Benjamin and my son-in-law John Robinson, Executors. Signed by John Tolman, in presence of us, Joseph Weeks, Abigail Withington, Ebenezer Holmes.
