BOURN, J. D.
THEY ENJOYED NEIGHBORS
The Bourn girls always thought Mrs. G. F. LeGrand {see # 103437593 }, wife of a pioneer doctor here, could make the best candy and custard in town.
The Bourns and LeGrands were neighbors on East Fourth Street; the children rode the one bicycle belonging to the LeGrand children and enjoyed the treats each of the mothers made for the neighborhood children.
The J. D. Bourn family came to Hereford from Denton County in 1906 and bought the home on East fourth where two of the daughters still live. Bourn was a real estate dealer and died here in 1912. Mrs. Bourn was living with the daughters here at the time of her death on March 19, 1959.
Martha Jane Bourn was born on July 1, 1864, in Wise County, Tex., and was married to J. D. Bourn on Oct. 11 1883. They were parents of: Mrs. Essie Cardwell and Miss Mary Bourn, Hereford; Mrs. Johnnie May Fuqua, Amarillo; and one son who died in 1925. (A History of Deaf Smith County, by Bessie Patterson, 1964 ;
