George Daniel Clinger - Obituary

Obituary from The Derrick (Oil City, Pennsylvania Newspaper Thursday May 13, 1909).

This Article was very difficult to decipher, (?) marks indicate words or characters I am unsure of.

Recent Deaths, George D. Clinger,

George D. Clinger aged 79 years died at his home at Walnut Bend at 4 (?) PM Wednesday afternoon after an illness of about a week's duration, from pneumonia of the lungs.  Mr. Clinger was born at Cochranton, Crawford County in 1829.  Forty years ago he removed from that place to Walnut Bend in locale and has since been engaged there in farming.  He was one of the oldest and best known residents of that section of the county and was well known in this City, where he was a frequent visitor.  Mr. Clinger's farm at one time was the scene of the gushing (?) of some extra large oil wells but the pay was from the Red Valley band and crashed (?) quickly.  Deceased was a member of Clarion Lodge of Odd Fellows and of Petrolia Lodge No. 343 F & AM.  With the later organization he had been connected for 57 (?) years.    Mr. Clinger was a man of sterling qualities, true to his word and well liked by all who enjoyed his acquaintance.  Until a few weeks ago he was normally active and industrious for a man of his advanced years.

He leaves surviving, two sons, William T. Clinger of Oil City and Carlton Clinger of Siverly; three daughters; Mrs. M. Tuttle of Oil City; Mrs. Mosher of Kane and Miss Mary Clinger at home; and one sister, Mrs. Kounselman, of New Lebanon, Pennsylvania.   The funeral services will be held at the house at Walnut Bend at 9 (?) AM Friday.  The remains and his funeral party will arrive in Oil City via P. R. R. train at 11:30 AM and the interment made in Grove Hill Cemetery.  The Funeral will leave Union Station for the cemetery at noon.
