military
Date:
1777
Description:
At roughly fifteen or sixteen, he enrolled in the 76th Regiment of the Foot in the Revolutionary War. The regiment was organized by lord Macdonald of Sleat, and known as MacDonald's Highlanders. The regiment saw service in various sections of the colonies, and it is reasonable to assume that MacDonald was present with Lord Cornwallis at his surrender of Yorktown. He was disbanded as a private at twenty one years, on Nov 1 1783.
