From "Ye OLD BURYING GROUND OF FAIRFIELD, CONN." by Mrs. Kate Perry: A fac-simile of his tombstone is given on page 200 of this book. "..is the oldest stone in the whole ground; from the circumstance of the date, initital,s and contemporary history, was erected to Samuel Morehouse, Lieutenant and County Marshall, from 1675 to 1687. He was the ancestor of the Morehouses in Fairfield and Litchfield Counties, and other families of the name scattered westward."
