In May 2003, I had an email from a GLon769@aol.com who apparently was also related to the Watkins family. She gave me the following:
Richard Watkins who died before 25 Nov 1654.
His son was Peter Watkins born c1679 died before 20 Feb 1694/95 Talbot County, MD. He m. before 10 Nov 1690 Talbot Co to Anne Nuthell (dau of Elias Nuthall and Elziabeth Beckwith).
Their son, another Peter was born 1691 Talbot and died 1745 Frederick Co., VA. m. Mary Griffith dau of David Griffith of Pencader 100, Newcastle County, DE before 1715. David Griffith was an immigrant from Wales, probably either Carmarthen or Pembroke, as he was apparently a Baptist. (The Baptists that went into Newcastle County, DE that time frame came from those two counties in Wales.)
Peter and Mary had three children, including Evan Watkins.
Complete Book of Emigrants 1607-1660 by Peter Wilson Coldham (I have since verified this reference): 25 Nov 1694 John son of Richard Watkins of Brotherden (Bredwardine) Herefordshire, England, deceased, bound to Joh n Vaughan of bristol (merchant) to serve 4 years in Barbados. Source was the Bristol Record Office, Bristol, England. Note from GLond769 was that "John should ahve been free of his bond about April 1659. Between then and 1663 he sailed to Kent County, Md where he applied for a land grant. It was iseud in 1663.
Both Peter and his wife Mary died in Old Frederick County, VA in the portion that became WV. Peter was still alive in 1742 for he was a member of Capt Georg Robinson's Co. of Milita, one of 12 companies named that year to keep the Indians down."
Evan Watkins (the ferryman) was born c1710 in Virginia. He did leave a will.
