There has been a reference to a George Way (my ancestor)
Born 1614 Dorsetshsire, England
Married 1650 Boston, Suffolk Co MA
Wife Elizabeth Smith born 1630
Died 1684 to 1689 Providence, RI
Grandchild by Elizabeth Batchler
This is our emigrant ancestor and the start of "The Connecticut Way"
book by Harry Way.
Could you explain the relationship to Elizabeth Batchler?
George Way came to the U.S. with his father (we believe to be Thomas Way
) and 4 brothers on the ship Lyon in 1631.
One of the brothers was lost overboard during a hurricane. Listed by
WJarrell was a Samuel Way, born 1616-1622 in Devon who "died at sea on
the Lion(?)" This MUST be the same person! Also listed as coming to
America in 1631 were Richard Way, George Way and Aaron Way. I am
assuming these four may be brothers?
I am sorry I am not familiar with the tafel listing, or what is meant by
2M, 4F etc.
We believe George Way (b. 1614) to be the son of Thomas Way. Thomas
had the following children in Ottery Saint Mary, Devon: Johan b 5 May
1609,
John b 25 Dec 1611
Thomas b 25 Dec 1611
George b 2 Mar 1614
Thomas then moved to Powerstock Dorset and had
Joane b 16 Jan 1616
Ann b 27 Nov 1618
Christopher b. 27 Nov 1618
Thomas Way's parents were George and Agnes Symes who were married 8 Jun
1580 at Powerstock, Dorset.
George died 26 Apr 1587 at Powerstock. Their children were:
George b 13 Jun 1581 Powerstock
Thomas b 10 Mar 1583 Powerstock
Peternell b 1584 (estimate)
m 4 July 1605 Christopher Harding
Phillip b 16 Nov 1585 Powerstock
Agnisb 1587 (estimate)
m 15 Apr 1611 Robert Stoninge at Ottery St. Mary
References have been made to the Book "Descendants of Robert Quarterman"
Would this book be available at the LDS or other libraries?
Also "info from David Leon Quarterman" a "Robert Ward" and a "Robert
Miller". Would these people have more information on the Way families?
These are the first references I have seen to this family line so I am
anxious to learn more.
Barbara
