-------------------------
Sadly our history is not always as pleasant as we hope it would be but still it deserves to be told.

Our forefather Isaac Chapman Tubbs, son of Samuel and Mary (Willey) Tubbs was born September 6, 1682 and was the first known Tubbs in our line who was able to read and write. He married Martha Smith in 1707 and was the father of at least nine children.
Sometime around 1728, after his last child was born, Isaac went insane. He decided to circumcise himself with a hatchet but, "he cut off that part which should have been left and left that which should have been cut off, according to the true method of circumcision". Quoting scriptures from the bible he then went to his neighbors and asked them to castrate him but when they refused he again attempted to do it himself. He was prevented from doing it but Isaac was quoted as saying, "My sons must be made like myself". Isaac had 7 sons and again the neighbors tried to dissuade him and thought they had succeeded but later found out they had not, Apparently none of the sons died at the hands of their father but one can only imagine the horror this family endured.
Isaac died in 1749 at Lyme, Connecticut, his tortured soul finally laid to rest.
