Peter Watkins Jr., ca.1689-ca.1767 and Mary Griffith, 1689-ca.1719 had 4 children that are known:

Evan, married Mary Finnicum.
Esau, married (1)Sarah Johnson (2) Mary Ringold.
Robert, married Margaret Finnicum.
Thomas, married Elizabeth Worley.

There may have been daughters, but are not yet identified.

The next Peter Watkins, 1732-1801 was the son of Evan Watkins, and he did migrate to South Carolina, then North Carolina.

Need a small bit of information, James. The land records in S.C. for Peter and Evan/Evin which are the closest to my Watkins family ( Robert and George)would then be descended from Peter Watkins-Mary Griffith. I believe this is the family that I descended from. I believe my ancestor Robert Watkins could not have bought the earlier SC tracts of land because he was too young. He was born in 1754 and the land sales were in 1770 and 1772. He did purchase land in 1774, though. So I have found that Roberts father was Robert also.
You helped me once before and told me the 4 boys descended from Peter Watkins and Mary Grifith. I had never seen their children Robert and Thomas listed. This Robert would be my breakthrough. I will obtain my own research and documents but could you give me an idea where to find a birth for Robert or the marriage from Robert/Margaret marrying ?
Thanks so much.Linda

James,
I am so pleased that you are willing to share your information with us. I was at the library today and in "The Complete book of Emigrants 1607 -1660, I found the following; 25 November 1654 John, son of Richard Watkins of Brotherden (Bredwardine) Herefordshire deceased, bound to John Vaughn of Bristol (merchant) to serve 4 years in Barbados. Source Bristol Record Office, City if Bristol Record Office, The Council House College Green Bristol BS1 5TR England. Is this the same John Watkins and is this one of your sources? The only discrepancy of cource is the date. I am also wondering if you have the name of the son of John, father of Peter? One of the other postings mentioned a royal connaction. What is that all about?

Hello Mary Jo, Yes, the 1654 servants bond to Barbados is one of the sources for John Watkins, son of Richard. I don't understand your comment about the date discrepancy, as The 1654 date fits right in with other known information about John Watkins. The son of John Watkins is Peter Watkins Sr., father of Peter Watkins Jr.

The royal connection through this Watkins line goes back through the Nuthall bloodline. There are Watkins individuals in the royal Welsh line, but I have never made a connection through Richard Watkins, whose last known location was Herefordshire, England on the Welsh border. I don't think there is any doubt that Richard Watkins was of Welsh descent.

Hi Jerry, The Peter Watkins of Rutherford County, North Carolina has no known connection to the supposed brothers Peter, Levin and Mitchell Watkins, of whom, it is said came from Wales. Peter Watkins was the son of Evan and Mary Watkins of Maryland and it was Evan Watkins who established Watkins Ferry on the Potomac River in Frederick County, Virginia about 1738.

The information of Peter, Levin and Mitchell Watkins came from the M. C. Barrett book "Pioneers of Craighead County, Arkansas" and although it is a wonderful research effort, Barrett was incorrect on the ancestry of Peter Watkins. Most current researchers of Peter Watkins are aware of this fact and the descendants of Levin and Mitchell Watkins also agree that our Peter had no relationship to them.

I am also a descendant of Evan Watkins and Mary Ann Dill.

You may also see records on the Internet and elsewhere that Peter Watkins married either Hannah Boone or Hannah Reynolds. Neither is correct. We don't know the maiden name of Peters' wife Hannah, but it has been proven beyond any doubt by Boone, Reynolds and Watkins researchers that Hannah was neither Boone nor Reynolds.
