Christian Gossage was born on October 2, 1702 in Justice, King William County Virginia. She was the daughter of Richard Gissage and Sarah Shelton. About 1727, she married John Poindexter of St. Paul's Parish, New Kent County. John became a large land holder in Louisa and Hanover Counties. Christian and John were the parents of eight children. John died in 1753 in Louisa County. Christian lived until 1779, when her will was probated in Fredericksville, Louisa County. In her will she mentioned her son Thomas; two daughters of her son Richard, deceased; her son William and his son William; her son Joseph, and her daughters Ann, Sarah and Frances.
