John Elderkin arrived at Lynn, MA in 1637 from England with his wife, Abigail Kingsland. Their marriage was blessed with eight children.
In 1638 received 20 acre grant in Lynn. He was a master Builder. He built the first church and second churches in Norwich and New London, and the first corn mill in each of those places. 1661: he constructed the first merchant vessel ever built in New London, the 'New London Tryall', at cost of over 200 pounds. He also kept the town inn at New London. (Ordinary Keeper). Many other mills, buildings and bridges in the area were built by John Elderkin.
