Of the four Stephen Smiths living in Genesee, New York in 1820, the Stephen Smith in Leicester is the one of the correct age, with a daughter the right age for his oldest daughter, Betty Elizabeth. The other two Stephen Smiths are living in the same places there are Stephen Smiths in the 1830 census, and the last one is living with a much larger family in 1820 than our Stephen Smith likely would have had. If they were living in New York in 1820, and not Vermont, then this was very likely them. On the same page is a Jeremiah Smith, aged 16-26, and a Susannah Smith who is 26-45.
