Subject: 1675 Rhode Island Newport Record of Lidia Way dau. of George Way & Thomas Monsall[kMunsell]
Good Afternoon Munsell & Way Cousins: I was at the Library of Michigan at noon today while researching my 6th and 7th great grandfathers, both named WILLIAM HARRIS and ran across the book of which I have attached part of the title page and page 45 of this book. The book is titled "Rhode Island General Court of Trials 1671-1704 as transcribed by Jane Fletcher Fiske & published at Boxford, MA in 1998."
I will quote from page 45 which is attached on the same page as the title page.
"Upon indictment by the Genrl Aturney against THOMAS MONSALL of Providence for liveinge and cohabitinge with LIDIA the daughter of GEORGE WAY of said Providence note beinge lawfully married - - - He the said MONSALL beinge bound to this court and in court cald apeard and askt whether guilty or not guilty - - - owned guilty accordinge to the law of man - - - The court centance is that the said Monsall shall finde sureties for his good behavior, and that he shall NOT COMPANY with LYDIA the DAUGHTER of George Wayor be com[m]itted to prison, and pay the sum of forty shillings to the Genrl Treasury, and if the said Monsall will promise and be bound in a bond of twenty pound to live from the said Lidia in other towne then his imprisonment to be remittedk, and he is to pay officers ffees - - - "
Previously I did not know that this court document showed without that Lydia Way was a daughter of George Way. Further this also shows that they both had lived in Providence and not Newport. I was under the impression that maybe he & Lydia lived in Newport. I feel that this is additional information showing indeed Lydia Way was the daughter of George Way and granddaughter of Henry Way.
I hope that someone will send this information to the Munsell [Yahoo] Group (done).
