Samuel Tubbs, 1638-1696, eldest child of William Tubbs was born 1638 in Duxbury, MA. It is assumed he left Duxbury and moved to New London, CT before his father's second marriage to Dorothy Soames. He was in his father's will long after he had moved to New London, and some authors place him in New London by 1663.
Land disputes arose between New London and Lyme over which town should have the right to plow the same meadow. The dispute resulted in riots between settlers of the towns. In 1671, Samuel participated in the contest on the side of New London.
Samuel Tubbs was a farmer and lived in New London util he died in 1696. In 1696, Samuel received a grant of land in Voluntown, CT in return for his services in King Phillip's War.
Samuel married Mary Willey, daughter of Isaac Willey and his first wife, Joanne. Isaac was in Boston by 1640, Charlestown by 1644, and in New London by 1645. He owned considerable property in New London and in nearby Haddam. Following the death of his first wife, he is believed to have married secon to an unknown person and third to Hannah Brooks Fox Lester. Isaac Willey died in 1685.
Samuel and Mary Willey Tubbs had ten children, nine mentioned in his will dated March 2, 1711/12.
He was married to Mary Willey (daughter of Isaac Wiley (Willey) and Joanna Lutten) in 1668 in New London, New London Co., CT.(31)
From Elizabeth DuBois, letter dated September 7, 1995.
I took the '@1668' marriage date for Samuel Tubbs and Mary Wiley from Torrey's book, page 757. That is the only date I have been able to find so that is all I can go with for now. Mary Willey was born about 1648 in New London, New London Co., CT.(32) She died after 1729.(33)
