Susanna Singletary of Haverhill was born September 19th 1681, the daughter of Nathaniel Singletary and Sarah Belknap (1).  The New England Historical and Genealogical Register has her as having been taken captive by American Indians with Mrs. Dunston in 1697, although this is only listed by some sources (2)(3).  Previously, on August 13 1689, her father Nathaniel had been shot and killed by American Indians while working in the fields with his son John, who managed to escape the ambush (4).

     She married Edmund Eastman on December 28 1709 in Salisbury.  Eastman was described as having been very involved in town and church affairs (4).  She married her second husband, Captain Richard Bartlett, on December 8th 1720.  Richard was a husbandman, a miller, and a cordwainer (shoemaker) living in Newbury (3).  Susanna died on August 27th 1761, in the '80th year of her life'.  She was buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery with her husband Capt. Richard Bartlett (5).
