John Poindexter - A Biography
A descendant of the Jersey England, born George Poindexter, he settled in Louisa County at the time of it formation near what is known as Gold Mine Creek, a small stream flowing into the North Anna River about 8 miles northwest of Louisa Court House. He owned large estates and was one of the prominent men in the county both in church and country matters. One of the first justices of Louisa County, Dec. 13 1742, and one of the first vestrymen of Fredericks Parrish. He died in 1753, and his will dated Jan. 10 mentions as legatees his wife Christian, and sons, Thomas, John, William, Richard and Joseph: daughters, Anne, Frances, and Sarah.
