A descendant of the Jersey England, born George Poindexter, he settled in Louisa County at the time of it formation near what is known as Gold Mine Creek, a small stream flowing into the North Anna River about 8 miles northwest of Louisa Court House. He owned large estates and was one of the prominent men in the county both in church and country matters.
