Because of custom, she was not given the title of queen.  According to King Alfred, this was because of the infamous former queen of Wessex, Eadburh.  Ealhswith founded the convent of St Mary's Abbey known as the Nunnaminster.  She is commemorated in two early tenth century manuscripts as "the true and dear lady of the English."

852 Duke Trpimir I, successor to prince Mislav and founder of the Trpimirović dynasty issues the first exactly dated state document of all Slavonic peoples. In this Latin document duke Trpimir refers to himself as the duke of the Croats (dux Chroatorum) and to his country as the state of the Croats (regnum Chroatorum).
