Elisha Higbee - Military History

Elisha Higbee was born about 1735 near New Brunswick, N.J. and died in Kentucky., near Lexington. He was the son of Peter Higbee and (unknown). He was married twice but his wives are unknown. His first marriage was about 1756 and after the birth of his first child, his wife died.

He later married again (wife unknown) and the following known children were born:
Peter Higbee about 1760
John Higbee about 1762
Joseph Higbee about 1765
His children were all born in New Jersey, probably not all of them are here given. Elisha was a member of the Jersey Blues and took part in the Revolutionary War. The family of his son Joseph, relate that Elisha took Joseph with him one night when he was guarding Washington's camp, near his home. The boy later related the story to his children. Late in his life he moved with his sons to Kentucky, settling near Lexington on a farm. Here he lived and died and his children settling near, later some of them moved farther west.
