Janetta Wilson, a daughter of James and Deborah [née Patterson] Wilson, was born on October 25th 1810 in Augusta County, Virginia. At the age of three, Janetta's family moved to the county of Rockbridge, near Natural Bridge. Next door on the neighboring farm, Janetta met her future husband, Samuel Miller.
Janetta and Samuel married on the 4th of September 1834. The following ten children were born to this union:

James Wilson (1838-1929)
Rebecca Ellen {m. Patterson} (1841-1934)
William Henry (1843-1893)
Thomas Lackey (1845-1846)

Calvin Chalmers (1851-1935)
Around 1852, Samuel started buying land warrants out west and after his parents died, sold the family homestead in Rockbridge and in 1856, move his family to Memphis in Scotland County, Missouri. Here Samuel and Janetta raised their children and lived the remainder of their life.
