Thomas Lynde, Deacon - Biography

Lynde.  Deacon Thomas Lynde, of Charlestown, "master," was born in January, 1593-4.  He came to this country and settled at Charles town, where his name appears among the inhabitants in 1634.  He was admitted freeman, March 4, 1634-5; was 8 years deputy to the General Court, the first time in 1636, the last time in 1653;  he was also one of the selectmen 14 years, and was constantly connected with town business, and was deacon of the church several years.  (See also Frothingham's Charlestown, p. 83.)

He died at Charlestown Dec. 30, 1671, "being 77 years old wanting 6 weeks."  He was thrice married; by his first wife he had several children, two of whom survived him, and are mentioned in his will, namely Thomas, who was born in England about 1616, and Mary, also born in England, and married to a Mr. Weeks, of Succonesset [she later married John Butler as her second husband].  The second wife of Deacon Thomas Lynde was "Margarett Jordan, widow, whose maiden name was Martin."  "She was born Feb 1599-1600, and deceased Aug. 3 1662, being 62 and a half years old."  By her, Thomas Lynde had 5 children, viz. William, Joseph, Sarah, Hannah, Samuel.

The third wife of Deacon Lynde (to whom he was married Dec. 6 1665, and by whom he had no issue,) was Rebbeca Trerice, wido of Nicholas Trerice, merchant.  She died at Charlestown, an aged widow, Dec. 8 1688.
