The ancestor of all who inherit the name De Lamater in the United States is Claude Le Maitre (De Lamater), a native of Richebourg in Artois, France, a scion of an ancient family in Picardy. Claude Delamater (or LeMaistre), the progenitor of the American Delamater family, was born in about 1611 in Richebourg, Artois, France.
